Project to support the restoration of the forest landscape of Impuru and its surroundings

Main objective

Promote the restoration of lost forest landscapes in order to improve the productivity of family farming and fight against climate change through the supervision of 40 women from the Kabuno watershed and its surroundings in agroforestry.

Specific objectives

Specifically, the project aims to:

Improve soil fertility and indirectly the productivity of rural activities of communities identified during consultation sessions

Promote forest landscape restoration activities in the minds of farmers and indirectly combat land degradation and climate change.

Create 10 hectares of community conservation forest galleries in 6 localities under project at the rate of two hectares per locality in order to promote the restoration of the endangered ecosystem.

Restructuring women farmers around the theme of sustainable agriculture and climate change

Expected results

40 women farmers have mastered new agricultural methods and technologies adapted to climate change.

A community association is consolidated and is involved in promoting forest cover regeneration activities throughout the Kabuno watershed area and has a restored community forest space.

A community nursery is set up in Goma, a town in the Nyiragongo territory

10 hectares of degraded soil are regenerated from the leaf surfaces and roots of tree species planted all around and/or in the fields of identified agricultural families.
